Texas and San Antonio are dotted with construction activity including the building of new schools in Northside each year. The Construction Careers Academy planned for Warren High School will prepare students for employment in the construction industry and for college by providing the necessary skills to enter general contracting and related industries.
Planned for completion in the fall of 2010, the new 38,000 square foot facility will provide relevant instruction for construction related occupations such as carpentry, drafting, electrician, pipefitter, air conditioning technologist and engineer. Students will be provided the necessary skills to enter construction careers by learning blueprint reading, properties of construction materials, safety, construction systems and the use of tools and techniques. Students who complete the Academy courses will be in a position to go to college, start a career or both.
In anticipation of the new building, a freshman class is being planned for the fall of 2009. Current 8th grade students will be able to apply for admittance into the Academy beginning in January, 2009. Students in the founding class of 2009 will take their initial two construction courses at Warren High School.
Beginning in 2010, students who enter the Academy will enroll in Warren High School, take construction and math courses at the Academy and the remainder of their academic courses at Warren. Applications will be available online at NISD.net on the Construction Careers Academy website in the near future.
